Last evening, the schola read through this remarkably tender piece by Martin de Rivaflecha (1470-1528): Anima Mea Liquefacta Est.

My soul melted when my beloved spoke; I sought him, and found him not; I called, and he did not answer me. I adjure you, Oh daughters of Jesusalem, if you find my beloved, that you tell him that I languish with love. (Song of Songs, 5:6-8)

"An authentic updating of sacred music can take place only in the lineage of the great tradition of the past, of Gregorian chant and sacred polyphony." (citation)

Emails have been pouring in over the past few months. People are seeking advice on managing up and coming parish music programs, looking for online resources, and help with the transition from the status quo to truly sacred music in general.

We've heard from music directors, pastors, organists, amateur musicians, and home school parents, to name only a few. To these individuals, the St. Cecilia Schola and this website have made a real difference in their daily lives as working, Catholic musicians. We couldn't be more pleased and humbled by their many positive and constructive comments.

A major part of our broader mission is education: to assist other parish choirs and Catholic musicians in participating in the revival of the sacred tradition. We accomplish this through workshops, articles in the popular and scholarly press, and, as mentioned above, by providing assistance to those who take the time to write us.

One of the ways we have been able to work toward this greater goal is provide financial assistance to young musicians who couldn’t otherwise attend our annual workshop or other indispensable meetings such as the Church Music Association of America’s Summer Music Colloquium held every June at the Catholic University of America. None of this would be possible without your continued and generous support.

For such successes we are ultimately grateful to you. Be in touch and let us know how we are doing.
